Q: When does the dance season start and end?
A: Our season starts Monday, September 16 and ends on Saturday, May 10 with our annual Spring Showcase.
Q: How do I enroll my child in classes?
A: You can enroll your child by visiting our website at www.summitstudioaspen.com and clicking “enroll now” if you are a new client or “parent portal” if you have already
created an account.
Q: What is the class schedule for this season?
A: The class schedule for this season is attached to this email.
Q: When can I enroll in classes for this season?
A: Enrollment is split into three waves:
Monday, August 5 at 12 pm: Current dancers who participated in the 2023-2024 season and participated in the Spring Showcase.
Wednesday, August 7 at 12 pm: Dancers who participated in 2024 Summer Session classes or camps.
Thursday, August 8 at 12 pm: Open enrollment begins.
Q: What are the tuition fees and payment options?
A: Our tuition fees are based on the total number of class hours per week that your child is enrolled in. We have a 30-week dance season, and the tuition for these weeks is divided into monthly installments. These installments are processed on the 15th of each month from September to May, regardless of the number of classes held each month. This approach provides a consistent and manageable payment plan for families throughout the season.
Q: Are there any additional costs besides tuition?
A: Yes, there may be additional costs including our annual registration fee, Showcase participation fee, and Showcase costumes. These costs will be communicated in advance.
Q: What should my child wear to dance classes?
A: Each dance style has specific attire requirements. Generally, dancers should wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing and appropriate dance shoes. Detailed dress code information for each class will be
available on our website soon.
Q: Can parents watch the classes?
A: To create the best possible learning environment for our dancers, we kindly ask
that parents refrain from watching regular classes. Our lobby is available for dropping off and picking up dancers; however, it is quite small and needs to remain accessible for dancers preparing for their class. For our "Littles Combo" class, parents are welcome to stay in the lobby, though the class itself will remain closed to ensure minimal distractions. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a focused and supportive atmosphere for all our students.
Q: What happens if my child misses a class?
A: We understand that conflicts arise. If your child misses a class due to sickness or family emergency, we offer makeup classes. Please contact the studio to schedule a makeup session.
Q: Is there a recital at the end of the season?
A: Yes, we hold an end-of-season recital, our annual Spring Showcase, where students can showcase their progress and perform for family and friends. This is typically the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend, although we are still finalizing this with the venue. More details will be provided as the date approaches.
You will notice class levels on the 2024/25 schedule. The following FAQs are designed to help clarify the new level system.
Our new class levels are designed based on a blend of recommended age ranges, skill levels, prior dance experience, ability to focus, memory retention, and other relevant factors. This ensures that each dancer is placed in a class that best matches their abilities, while creating a space for each dancer to reach their full potential.
Q: How do I know which level my child should enroll in?
A: You should start with the age of your child (as of January 1, 2025). If they are an age that swings between two different levels, please consider prior experience and memory retention. We will review each registration and contact any families that should be placed in a different level. If you are unsure, please contact us, and we can help determine the best fit for your child.
Q: My child turns 9 in September. Which class should I enroll her in?
A: Age is determined as of January 1, 2025. This would place the 9 year old dancer in Level 2 classes.
Q: Can my child move up a level during the season?
A: Yes, students can move up a level during the season if their instructor feels they are ready. We will communicate with parents about any recommended changes.
Q: What if my child is new to dance but is placed in Level 4 based on their age?
A: If your dancer needs additional support to feel comfortable and confident in a higher level, we offer private and semi-private lessons when the studio is available. These sessions focus on building foundational skills and confidence, ensuring that every dancer can thrive in their appropriate level.
Q: Are the age ranges for each level strict?
A: The age ranges are guidelines. We understand that every dancer develops at their own pace. If your child is outside the recommended age range but matches the skill level, we can discuss placing them in a different level.
Q: How does the level system benefit my child?
A: The level system ensures that each dancer is placed in a class that matches their skill level and experience. This promotes effective learning, minimizes frustration, and allows for more personalized instruction, helping each dancer to reach their full potential.
Due to the high demand for our classes, we only offer enrollment for the full season, September through May, ending with our annual Spring Showcase. This helps us ensure every dancer gets the most out of their experience and allows us to accommodate as many students as possible in our small studio.
If you are not able to commit to the entirety of our season, we kindly ask that you unenroll from your selected classes and seek the options of drop in classes as your schedule allows. Pending space availability, we will be able to accommodate drop-in requests, but our priority is to provide a consistent experience for dancers committed to the full season.
Please note that if you sign up for a class and later decide to drop out before the end of the season, a drop fee will be assessed to your account. The amount of the drop fee will vary based on several factors, including the number of remaining class sessions and showcase venue deadlines.
