The program covers assistant teaching skills such as classroom management, technical development and progressions, and different learning needs and styles. This provides our dancers with an opportunity to contribute to the community in a positive way and strive to teach patience, empathy, communication skills, and initiative.
Teacher Assistants will be required:
- to be 12 years old
- to assist in at least one dance class per week. This is a season long commitment, from September 11-May 13.
- to attend training sessions/staff meetings as needed, typically 2-3 times/season on Sundays 1pm-3pm
- to uphold the values of Summit Studio and positively promote themselves and the studio at all times
- to attend and assist their class backstage during performances. Teacher Assistants may or may not be asked to perform onstage with their class, pending whether the teacher deems it necessary
- to arrive to your scheduled class/es approx 10 minutes early, in proper attire
- to wear appropriate Summit Studio teaching attire, including TA shirt as requested, and present yourself professionally as you are now a role model to each class that you student teach in.
Outline of Responsibilities:
- Assist primary instructor in the class setting
- Responsible for being present and active in the lobby to ensure safe drop off and pick up
- Facilitate bathroom breaks if a child needs additional assistance
- Help with behavioral issues, clothing issues, helping comfort/settle students
- Lead warm up when asked by primary instructor
- Demonstrate skills when asked by instructor
- Potential to step in as a substitute instructor
